They are getting pretty fucking desperate.
It's not a bad deal, I'll give it that.
But. Pretty. Fucking. Desperate.
And the funny thing is that the advert doesn't really make sense.
Scroll of Ressurection equals retired player
Most people find the good times in the past (e.g. BC and sometimes WotLK), why would it be time to come back when it's not the same as what you remembered?

What if you never really played.
You sit there with no gear, no gold, no professions, no guild, no mounts, nothing.

I love this myself. I can finally get myself a level 85 Warlock without much effort. I still have the heirlooms from my Mage.

Have you been offline for 90 days? That's the minimum for scroll of resurrection

They didn't revamp 60-70 content in Cata;D

Oh. Thought you were talking about instantly skipping the endgame raids for 60 and 70.
Never mind then. :I

And lol.
I hate Blizzard due to those kind of things.

My hate for Blizzard and their abusive way to use mounts to hoard in players almost give me this tasty feeling of pity.

It's not a desperate move. It's a smart move. They'd be desperate if SWtoR was closing in on their sub count... which isn't happening... ever.

This. Sure they lost 600,000 subscribers last quarter, wait 'til the release of Mists of Pandaria and I bet you they will gain that back that quarter. This always happens, and people are always so quick to laugh at Blizzard for being "desperate", when really it's just the times. No new content has been out in WoW for awhile and people get bored - That's why new expansions come out.

No :c
Also, I don't think they're desperate. I think they're trying to milk whatever money is left in the WoW population before they push out their new MMO. They got this in the bag, brother.

I never said I lost faith in them. (If I'm to be honest, I didn't have any "faith" in them since half-way trough WotLK. Only reason I play is due to boredom and that I felt like giving them a second chance with Cata.)
Not to mention that they failed at satisfying my boredom since I do my caps and raid once a week and then I don't go online for the rest of the week.
Nor was what I meant with "desperate" in this particular sense.
But more in terms on getting money.

They lost 600,000 subscribers for a reason.
Sure, a new expansion will come out. What of it?
Gradually, for every expansion, people have been getting bored.
BC was cool cause it was a first time and people could cope with the change.
WotLK was okay for a starter because of the hype, but somewhere in the middle of all this, people started to get bored with it and Blizzard had to push out so much content as possible to keep peoples interest up for WoW.
Cataclysm was no change for this, the hype made people believe it would correct mistakes in WotLK, which, it sadly did not. It disappointed them, people got bored YET AGAIN and this is such a marginal which caused them to lose those 600k subscribers.
Now, what with Pandaria? We are yet to see. Perhaps it will make things to a better, but most people doubt it. I'm not going to judge it, but I'm not going to expect improvements in terms of game play either. Other than that I can go and play pokemon on WoW when I'm not raiding.
Which, will eventually die out too because people will want to do other things than that 6 days a week when all caps have been reached.
And challenge mode... I hardly see people do for fun since people grew bored with redoing old heroics long, long ago.
Just like you are telling us we judge an expansion before it is out - You judge an expansion before it is out in a different sense.
Nevertheless, a lot of players doesn't intend to get the expansion itself, which will show that people are bored of this expansion shit.
And if they don't manage to improve the game a huge deal, I will probably see the same amount if not more - leave the game.
Especially when Guild Wars 2 comes out and people want to see different things.
TL;DR
My point is that from many peoples view, they are aware that people will probably get bored of WoW soon.
And that's why I believe they did not only do a "12 month oath to play" but also this, trying to bring back retired people to the game. While earning a good deal of money.
If we consider this, that would make sense why they make the whole 3-pay-method in Diablo III when it comes to real life money AH. To get money that they are losing on WoW.
That's just a random speculation though.
Just my 2 cents. Critize it however you want.
Oh yeah, just for information @ Nightbane regarding the no stuff once you get 80.
They got pre-made sets for each clothing type
Here's the caster versions for example
http://www.wowhead.c...arch?q=Seraphic
also they give you 4x 20 slot bags, 75 gold, 20x buff food from WotLK depending on your class, 450/450 first aid, 20x Heavy Frostweave Bandages and free epic flying and Azeroth flying.
Edit 2 -
Oh yeah, nevermind what I said about that 90 days to be eligible thing.
Anyone who haven't had play time before the 4th march is available for the scroll of resurrection.

Warhammer, Aion, Rift, SWotR...
GW2 isn't going to be any different.
There's a reason WoW raped GW1 in subs.

GW 1 was extremely different both in terms of style and game play. People weren't used to it, nor was too fond of the instance-only based exploration.
GW 1 was an extremely good game. But people weren't fond of it nor familiar with it.
I played Warhammer, Aion and Rift, the main issues I found with them was that a lot of things were copied directly from WoW - Which was a smart move at the time, but people get bored when faced with the completely same thing over and over and over.
I haven't played SW:TOR, but from what I hear from people playing it, in their eyes, every particle in that game is ripped from WoW, and the endgame is a complete copy.
Guild Wars 2 is something I'm seeing different, because I've watched almost every available element in the game from the press beta that was available, and I see a shit ton made better, and unique.
It has it's ups and downs of course, but I still see it tremendously better than WoW in it's current state.
And, to add on. Of course the well-known fact that it won't have any subscription fee. Which makes it feel like a gift. It's pretty clear a lot of people will buy it, even if they are skeptical. Because it's a game worth having.
If you don't want to play for 3 months, no sweat. You can log-on whenever you want and do what you want without having to worry about running out of game time.
