Nintendo is more in the second-hand console market, hence no mention. (I would think anyway)

Nah, when GabeN said that they'd sell hardware if they had to, he was referring to wearable computing, because they've been researching that. I read the full interview, and I see it highly unlikely that Valve would do this.
I could be wrong, tho =P.
And yes, I'd buy it on launch day.
