WoW-V.com will be transferring its domain registration from GoDaddy to NameCheap in the next few hours. Whether this will cause any down time or not I'm not sure, but I'll keep monitoring the progress to make sure nothing gets screwy.
Why are we doing this, you may be asking? Because GoDaddy was not only pro-SOPA, but it was one of the main contributors to writing it. As Vampiric Dust posted a few days ago, we are very much anti-SOPA (http://stopcensorship.org/ for more info), and GoDaddy's half-assed attempt to say it is no longer in support of the act is just pathetic. Is it possible to move domains to HostGator, or do they only do web servers and not domains?

Transferring may take a bit longer than expected. They've denied my first request because:

A support request is in, so we'll see where this goes. My other domains have transferred just fine, so who knows why WoW-V.com is being weird.
1) HostGator only does hosting. Yes, they can manage your domain stuff when you sign up as well, but they don't have a domain-only service.
2) I'm not sure who HostGator is a domain reseller of. You'll want to make sure they aren't just reselling GoDaddy shit. As far as I know they *aren't* a proper registrar, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'd definitely suggest asking them.

We use their hosting services, yes. I do the domain management myself though, not HostGator.

So GoDaddy is trying to claim that I've been re-locked into a 60 day waiting period where I can't transfer my domain because I supposedly updated the organization or first/last name info on the domain... except that all that info is in the same section as the address info, and that address is around 5 years old (and I've moved quite a few times since then).
Fighting with them about it now, but it looks like they will just keep me locked in so that they don't lose a popular (compared to the other ones I transferred) domain.
My guess is they will come back with faked dates/times (I've demanded to see the info on when/what things were changed that locked me in again), or they'll just say it's not possible to get that info (which is a lie).
So I'll be submitting a BBB complaint (which is pretty worthless to a company like GoDaddy that doesn't give a shit what people are having issues with), as well as contacting some of the larger blogs out there to get some fire going.

Yeah, SOPASucks is around a 30 - 40% discount, and move2nc is about a 30% discount to .net, .com, and .org domains.

Alright, plan is to stay with GoDaddy until Dec 29th and then maybe switch, or stay with GoDaddy and not be happy about it :( Dunno if I can pull up $30 to switch domains, when I'm losing a couple years of each domain as well. Each is a lose-lose situation.

Quick update: after being blatantly lied to by GoDaddy support (either out of extreme stupidity or a failed attempt to prevent us from leaving), we have finally got the WoW-V.com transfer back on track.
Fuck you GoDaddy. I won't miss your disgusting advertising practices, supreme douche of a CEO, scam-like shopping cart system, world-renown TERRIBLE customer service, or your crappy politics. Here's to hoping you go out of business in the next few years.
